Developing Creativity Using Women Surrealists' Art as a Palette Course run for the first time with poet Pascale Petit at Ty Newydd Writers' Centre, Wales, in July 2013, and again in July 2016.
This course develops creativity and free the imagination through women surrealists' art and practices. Whether you are a poet, prose writer, visual artist, or just interested in the potential of surrealism to energise your work, this course will help you and an authentic voice for a sustained art practice. We explore the rich heritage of surrealism, focusing on women artists such as Leonora Carrington, Remedios Varo, Meret Oppenheim, Frida Kahlo, Lee Miller and Annette Messager. There are screenings of films, such as Pamela's IMAGO: Meret Oppenheim, and Pascale offers writing exercises and games. Books and images are available for research and readings. There is time set aside to write and/or draw in a dream journal each morning. Apart from morning workshops, films and talks, there is an opportunity for private time in the afternoons and one-to-ones with the tutors.
